Jaime Kaplan began this event in 1989 as the Charter Celebrity Tennis Classic. In 1990, it became the Fred Harkins Volvo Celebrity Tennis Classic. Five Star Mazda took over as the Title Sponsor in 1991 and in 1992 golf was added to the Classic. In 1994, tennis was dropped from the format and since then a one day golf tournament has been staged along with an exciting auction. In twenty years, the Celebrity Classic has netted over $1.76 million for the Macon Association for Retarded Citizens and the Macon Rescue Mission. This year’s event benefits the Macon Rescue Mission and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. We are grateful to Kevin Brown for once again partnering with our sponsors to help raise funds for such worthy causes.
